You may be familiar with the good old hymn, “What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” but what does having Jesus as our friend mean? Is he really our buddy? Jesus as our friend means he is close to us, we are united. It is a very personal thing for Jesus to be that close to us. Jesus even said that we were no longer servants, but friends because we know him. How close do you know Jesus?
As we continue with our Places of the Passion Sermon Series, we find ourselves at Golgotha (the place of the skull) or we may know it as Calvary (Latin meaning skull). The cross is never easy. It is repulsive and ugly. A symbol of the worst kind of torture, injustice, and brutality. And yet it is the central symbol of our faith. Join us as we venture to the cross and find there faith and love intersecting and announcing triumph.
This weekend we celebrate Transfiguration Sunday. Jesus’ divinity is revealed to Peter, James, and John, but also God the Father reinforces who Jesus is for those who believe. Jesus is the Son of God and the words He gave us, taught us are words we ought to follow as we go on our faith journey.
We gather together to celebrate communion and remember and proclaim that Jesus is the cure for our social ills of the world today. He is the Savior of the world and we are equipped to go out and tell of how He has changed our lives so that others may know the good news of our risen Lord.
